Kirk Douglas’ Ceremony

After finishing Kirk Douglas' ceremony, Donald O'Conner lifted Kirk up by his feet to put Kirk's chin in the cement but John's back was turned so didn't see what was going on. When he saw the square, he saw this "funny mark" in the cement so John got his trowel and smoothed it out, not realizing he had erased Kirk's chin imprint until he was later told that the mark was left by Kirk's chin.

Anthony Quinn’s Ceremony

Anthony Quinn's sons placed 3 dimes in the square "for good-luck" after the ceremony was done, only to have the dimes stolen from the square.

A plaque was placed in cement to honor "The Robe" as the first picture in cinemascope. The plaque was stolen from the square.

John was asked by Steve Allen to prepare a square in front of his studio for a stunt involving the placement of a sausage in cement for his show.
John was asked by Steve Allen to prepare a square in front of his studio for a stunt involving the placement of a sausage in cement for his show. John was asked by Steve Allen to be a guest on the show, "I've Got a Secret with Steven Allen," for the purpose of a panel a 3 to inquire about John's job, not even initially knowing he had been working at The Chinese Theatre. Additionally, he prepared a few squares of cement for the show, in which case, he later set each panelist's footprints (shoe-prints) in cement during the live taping. These were then put on display at Grauman's for a short time.
